Product Review: Wii

I've had a Nintendo Wii for just over a week now, and I like it. It works well, it's fun, and it has cool features.

I love its built in Netflix capability. It does not lag at all, and its less hassle than the old computer I used to keep near my TV.

I love the way Nintendo handles all privacy questions. Instead of assuming they can do whatever they want, they put equal sized YES / NO buttons side by side under a short, clear explanation of what is going on. You don't have to read the small print and then find the tiny link to stop them from doing something draconian. I feel like this corporation is serious about being my friend.

I only have Mario Kart and Wii sports so far, but my wife and I are having fun with that. I'm glad I found something that she likes to play.

The built in browser is adequate. I feel like the real laptop was better when it was working properly, but this is pretty easy to use and I've been able to do what I wanted to with it so far.

I've noticed a few little touches here and there that suggest to me that Nintendo lets its programmers have fun sometimes. I think that makes for a better product in the end.

Overall, I like the Wii a lot. I wish I had gotten it earlier.

  1. It has now crashed once so far. It was at the end of watching something on Netflix. Not during a video, but at the end. That's a polite malfunction.
